Take flight into the avian world by immersing yourself with the work of our keepers. Try your hand at preparing feed and enrichment for some of the most fascinating birds. Find out how keepers ensure that the birds are kept in the pink of health. Be prepared to get dirty and rough it out for the sake of our feathered friends!

The keeper uniform: something hardy and unafraid of grime.
Children get a keeper T-shirt, pants and boots, not just for the day, but for keeps.

Keepers’ work is not easy work. An education staff will brief you on all aspects of their responsibilities for the day.

Cooperation is everything. Get a closer perspective on how different departments in the bird park work together to get the job done.

Workstation 1: @ Lory Loft
Enter the world of living colours at the Lory Loft. The gregarious parrots are a joy to watch as they entertain you with their quirky antics. However, taking care of their health is no easy matter. Go behind-the-scenes into the kitchen and prepare a sumptuous and nutritious meal for the colourful lories and friends.

Avian Hospital Tour
Go behind-the-scenes to the only avian hospital in the Asia Pacific. Find out what goes on in maintaining the health of the birds and you may even get the chance to witness one of our vets in action.

Workstation 2: @ Penguin Coast
Learn about the diet of all five species of penguins at the Jurong Bird Park and prepare their favourite fishy meal. Be prepared for a sensory experience!

Workstation 3: @ Breeding and Research Centre
Experience first-hand the time and effort the bird nannies at the Breeding and Research Centre put in for our little eggs and chicks. Learn how to prepare a meal for our growing chicks and how to keep them happy with hand-made enrichment toys!

Debrief
Time really flies! We have come to end of the day's adventure. What did you learn as a Junior Avian Keeper? Did the birds like the enrichment you made? Were the mealworms squirmy? You are certain to have had some very interesting encounters. It's time to share your day’s experience.

*Participants will be fully accompanied by an Education officer throughout the day.
** Participants will ‘rub shoulders’ with and get to learn from a full-time Avian Keeper at each workstation.

Points to Note:

  1. Payment invoice must be produced on the date of the camp as proof of successful registration.
  2. We have the right to turn away unregistered individuals who turn up for the camp.
  3. For emergency contact purposes, we will only consider registration submitted by parents or legal guardians.
  4. Programme pricing stated excludes 7% GST.
  5. Price includes park admission, uniform, meals and one conducted tour stated in the itinerary.
  6. Prices and programmes are correct at point of communication and subject to change without prior notice.
  7. Programme is available on a first-come-first-served basis.
  8. Upon selection (on first-come-first-served basis), completed registration form must be sent via email within 3 working days, failing which the reserved slot will be released to the next participant in the waiting list.
  9. Fees paid are non-refundable. However, we accept replacement of participant or participation in an alternative camp of the same value.
  10. Some programmes are weather permitting. In the event of wet weather, the Education Department reserves the right to replace the affected outdoor programme with an indoor programme deemed suitable according to the staff’s own discretion.
